Some Exciting Firsts!!!

First, let me apologize for not getting on here more to update. (I've been told by more than one person that I need to. :) ) I have wanted to wait for some pics but since I'm not showing yet, I thought I'd wait. However, some cool things have happened so I thought I would share them with all of you.

Friday, January 2nd, Steve and I had a doctor's appointment where we were going to hear the heartbeat for the first time. After getting in there and on the table, it took the doctor awhile to find it. Here the little bugger was tucked way beneath my pelvic bone (apparently due to a slightly tipped uterus) and it was tough to find. But, then there it was - the most beautiful sound in the world. The steady thump, thump, letting me know that I indeed am pregnant even though right now I feel so good I couldn't tell. I started to tear up and Steve did too. Steve told me later that he was beginning to "freak out" because it took the doctor a minute or so to find the heartbeat. The doctor said that it was in the 140 range. To which many people have said "it's low, that means it's a boy." I don't know about that. But it was amazing!

My second new first has been the experience of feeling the baby move for the first time. Monday, Jan. 19, when I got home from school, I was sitting down and felt this little "muscle spasm" as I called it. It was so light and quick. I have been told that the first movements have been called "fluttery" - which I guess it was. So I just kind of put it in my mind, but being that I haven't experienced that before I wasn't sure. But then the same thing happened yesterday and today. So I'm almost sure I'm feeling my little bug moving around in there. It is so cool!! It really makes me feel more connected to the baby. For a while, when you feel good and don't feel anything.. it makes the pregnancy surreal. But now it's beginning to feel more and more real.. although not completely.

Next week, I go for my 18 week appointment and we will schedule our 20 week ultrasound! How exciting! I know many of you are wondering what we will be having HOWEVER.... you all will have to wait. :) Sorry. Steve and I are doing things the old fashioned way and waiting until he/she is born. We want the anticipation of hearing it's a .... as soon as we meet him/her. BUT we will have more pics of an actual person instead of just a peanut. So keep watching for more updates!
